Launch: How to Quickly Propel Your Business Beyond the Competition: Book Review

Michael Stelzner“Give away your secret sauce,” professed Michael Stelzner during a recent Social Media Examiner webinar this past June.  This statement sets the tone for Stelzner’s latest book, “Launch: How to Quickly Propel Your Business Beyond the Competition.”

Back in May I entered a contest conducted by Social Media Examiner (of which Michael Stelzner is the Founder and CEO) to be one of 50 bloggers to review Launch.  Amazingly I was one of the 50 selected to review his book and here I am.  Read previous post about this here.  Before diving into my review, I first want to thank Michael Stelzner and the folks at Social Media Examiner for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of this contest and to have an opportunity to review his stellar book.

Enough about me.  So Launch.

Whether you’re a CEO of a Fortune 500 company or an owner of a Ma and Pop shop, Launch will absolutely help your business take off to the next level.  To reach the next level of success, Stelzner focuses primarily on tools that are executed via social media and content marketing.  He steers away from the traditional marketing methods that have been utilized for years and shows you how to leverage today’s current marketing environment to propel your business beyond the competition.

All the cool kids are reading Launch by Michael Stelzner.

In order to convey this, Stelzner presents a simple and straightforward concept, “The Elevation Principle.”  Taken from Stelzner’s book he assures,

“Whether you’re launching a new business, releasing a new product, or you need to transform your company, the elevation principle will quickly help improve your reputation, marketplace standing and yes, revenue.”

It’s hard to not be sold once reading this statement and dive head first into his book.  What’s great about Stelzner’s delivery of his concept is the consistent comparison of how following the Elevation Principle is like launching a rocket ship into outer space.  Throughout his book, this comparison makes it effortless to follow along and understand what he means when explaining how various components of a business strategy can either propel your business, sustain momentum or produce drag.

Additionally, Stelzner’s writing is full of genuine tones and inspirational messaging.  You feel like he truly wants your business to succeed.  His Elevation Principle goes hand in hand with the Pay it Forward concept by stating that by doing well by people the favor will be returned tenfold in the long run.  But you really have to mean it and the sincerity has to be there.  This is also consistent with the golden rule.

Launch: How to Quickly Prople Your Business Beyond the CompetitionWhile reading Stelzner’s book, I couldn’t help but think how much better off I would have been had I been required to read this book in college.  Marketing and Business Professors should add this reading to their curriculum.  Just saying.

A couple things to keep in mind while reading Launch ; Stelzner is a super firm believer in predominately using social media tools to propel your business.  This may not apply to every business and perhaps businesses may want to consider being cognizant of not relying too heavily on one method.  To this day I do enjoy seeing a huge ad plastered on the side of a building or a city bus transformed into a shark’s mouth eating passengers.

Regardless, while reading Stelzner’s book I caught by myself nodding my head and mhmming a lot.   It has definitely changed the way I view doing business and is a valuable resource in my marketing library.  Lion’s ROAR Marketing has left it’s paw of approval on Michael Stelzner’s new book and strongly urges you to add it your library of business resources.  Viva la Launch!

If there should be theme song for Launch it should totally be Rocketeer by Far East Movement.  Enjoy below 🙂

Update:  I gave away my free copy of Launch (supplied by Social Media Examiner) to the first person to like my Facebook Fan Page on Monday after tweeting about how I was giving the book away.  Guess my initial concept of having people dress up like Scout didn’t resonate well enough with other Social Media Examiner groupies out there.  Congratulations to Jenni Superhug of Superhug located in London.  Thanks for Liking my Fan Page!
