The Invoice Machine: Looking Out for the Little Guy

There once was a time (or there still is a time) where I would receive invoices from individuals requiring me to pay them large sums of money for services rendered.  Not so fun.  But recently the day came when I was the one issuing the invoice.  Hallelujah!  But then it dawned on me, how do I even create a professional looking invoice?

Enter The Invoice Machine.  I found The Invoice Machine by browsing around on Freelance Switch.  Their website has a ton of great resources for freelancers and small businesses.  Read my previous post to find out more.  However, by just reading short descriptions of the various invoicing services featured, I was able to select a service that best fit the needs of my current situation.

The Invoice Machine is, “An online invoicing service which simplifies your invoicing and makes it beautiful,” and are based out of the “deep spruce forest of Sweden.”  Very nice.  The Invoice Machine lives up to it’s mission statement by incorporating clean and simple design a la Apple software.  It’s so clean and simple a cave man can use it!  There are also quite a few great features that come with using The Invoice Machine as well.  Please see below:

  • Billing Timer: If performing work on the clock versus a flat-rate, The Invoice Machine enables users to clock their work on a timer.  This will reflect up to the second work performed.
  • Design Aesthetics: Users have the option of incorporating their logos and company color schemes in their invoices in order to maintain company branding.
  • Portability: Sending invoices to clients is made easy by The Invoice Machine allowing the ability to send your invoice from their website in PDF format.
  • Trackable: Be able to see who has paid, who hasn’t and who will have to (or else!)
  • Customizable: Whether you provide discounts, services in other currencies, or different languages; The Invoice Machine has got you covered with their various customizable invoice options.

What’s probably the best part of The Invoice Machine for freelancers is that depending on the robustness of your pipeline, The Invoice Machine is free for the first three invoices in any given month.  Thereafter, it requires a subscription fee but it is very reasonable considering how much you would pay an accountant to do the same job.  Also, it’s a great marketing strategy on their end to offer this service free for freelancers with less jobs because as your jobs increase you are more likely to stick with The Invoice Machine due to customer loyalty.
